The situation in Ukraine on March 19, 2022

General description of the situation. Russia launched a war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022 (24th day of the war). They began with a rocket-bomb attack on 17 Ukrainian cities, first on military infrastructure and now on civilian infrastructure.

Today, March 19, the twenty-fourth day of the heroic opposition of the Ukrainian people to the Russian military invasion has begun.

The defense of the positions has not changed significantly during the last day. The Armed Forces of Ukraine and other units of the Defense Forces continued to strike at groups of enemy troops trying to hold the captured frontiers.

Ukraine’s anti-aircraft missile forces and fighter jets hit 12 enemy air targets – 2 planes, 3 helicopters, 3 unmanned aerial vehicles and 4 cruise missiles. Also, during the day, Ukrainian defenders destroyed several columns of equipment of the occupiers in Mykolayiv and Sumy regions, the losses of the enemy are currently being clarified.

The enemy has suffered heavy casualties and it is likely that the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation will decide to begin open mobilization to continue the protracted, exhausting war.

The enemy continues to suffer significant losses. Has problems with logistics of units.

The occupiers partially succeeded in the Donetsk operational area – temporarily deprived Ukraine of access to the Sea of Azov. On approaches to Nikolaev the enemy was stopped by joint actions of divisions of the Ukrainian defense forces.

The enemy is trying to compensate for the failures in advancing troops by launching missile and bomb strikes using both high-precision weapons and indiscriminate bombardment.

During the current day, the enemy inflicted 4 missile strikes (14 missiles) and carried out more than 40 air raids.

The situation in the Volyn direction has not changed significantly.

In the Polissya (Chernobyl) direction, the enemy is trying to hold the previously captured frontiers on the Irpin River. The occupiers did not take active offensive actions, but were forced to defend their unfavorable frontiers and positions.

In the Seversky (Chernihiv) direction of changes in the composition of the enemy troops and the nature of his actions did not happen. The occupiers continue to partially block Chernihiv, shelling civilian neighborhoods in the city.

In the Slobozhansky (Kharkiv) direction, the nature of the enemy’s actions did not change significantly. Attempts to block Sumy and Kharkiv, as well as attempts to resume the offensive in the direction of Pokrovsk, continue. The occupiers strengthened the group by introducing from the territory of the Russian Federation 2 units of the 6th General Army and the 1st Panzer Army of the Western Military District.

In the Luhansk direction, the invaders are trying to establish control over the settlements of Rubizhne and Popasna, as well as blockade Severodonetsk.

Mariupol continues to be destroyed by missile and bomb strikes there is a humanitarian catastrophe. The battles for Popasna continue.

The Russians planted mines in the Black Sea and these mines were destroyed by a storm. Now drifting mines are floating on the Black Sea and threatening any ship.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated 3 more Russian officers – Major Ilgiz Usmanov from Bashkortostan, Deputy Commander of the Motorized Rifle Battalion; Captain Cherkashin Eugene from the Altai village of Kosykha, commander of the tank platoon of 35 OMSBr; senior lieutenant of the Rosguard Zuikov Sergei, a native of the village of Trinity Amur region.

Cases of resistance from the local population

In the village of Brylivka in the Kherson region on March 18, residents went to a rally against the occupation by Russian troops. People chanted patriotic slogans, sang the National Anthem of Ukraine and Ukrainian songs.

The Russian military continues to kidnap pro-Ukrainian people in the Zaporizhia region. This was reported in the Zaporozhye Regional Military Administration.

In the center of Lviv, local residents held an action to honor 109 children who died at the hands of the ROV. 109 empty baby carriages were placed in the central square of the city.
